Bio
I have been a Database Administrator since 2006. I started my career as a .NET Developer but eventually found that I had a passion for SQL Server and pursued my MCITP certifications for SQL Server 2008 Database Administrator and Developer. I have been the Director of Programs for NTSSUG for the past two years, regularly attending meetings, board meetings and playing an active role in the group. I have been speaking at SQLSaturdayevents and user groups across the country for the past four years. When not bending SQL Server to my will, I like spending time with family and friends, especially my two nephews and niece.

How long you’ve been an active participant with NTSSUG, and any notable group contributions (SQLSaturdayvolunteer, presentation at a group meeting, etc.)

I have been the Director of Programs for NTSSUG for the past 2 years. After becoming a board member I played an integral role in the organizing of SQLSaturdayDallas 2016 – selecting the speakers, techinical preparations, as well as coming up with ways to bring a little something extra to the event with skits and the SNL video opening.

Prior to 2016, I attended NTSSUG meetings on a regular basis and assisted with preparations for the SQLSaturdayDallas 2015 event (coordinating the catering).

I attend NTSSUG meetings and board meetings on a regular basis. If for some reason you haven’t seen me at a meeting I was likely traveling for a SQLSaturdayevent.

List of community contributions, career accomplishments, other leadership roles held, or other professional details that might be pertinent

I started speaking at SQLSaturdayevents in 2014 and have spoke at so many SQLSaturdayevents and user groups, I have lost count. Just recently I had the honor of being selected to speak at PASS Summit. I also have been selected to be an Idera ACE as part of their 2018 class. In the past volunteered for the SQL PASS special projects committee.

A brief summary of why you want to be a part of the board and why you’ll make a good board member

I would like to continue the work I have been doing – bringing in amazing speakers each month from the DFW area and outside DFW, working with the other board members on iniatives and NTSSUG projects, and finding ways to make NTSSUG better. With SQLSaturdayDallas 2018 in the queue, I am looking forward to getting our event on the official schedule, working to get a great list of speakers lined up, and ensuring that Dallas continues to be one of the top SQLSaturdayevents in the country.

Bio

I have been working with Microsoft database technologies since 1994 (Access), SQL Server since 1998/v7.0. I am primarily a production admin, but also have experience in database architecture and development. I have dabbled in SSRS a bit but have not worked in BI/DW at all. Yet. Over the years I have been an independent consultant, contractor and full-time employee. I graduated from the University of North Texas in 1991 with a degree in Finance and a minor in Accounting. My wife and I have 2 grown daughters, a son and 2 grandkids. I run Dallas DBAs LLC, which is on an intentionally slow building curve.

How long you’ve been an active participant with NTSSUG, and any notable group contributions (SQLSaturdayvolunteer, presentation at a group meeting, etc.)

I have been a member of NTSSUG for at least 10 years and attend meetings when I can. I presented to the group once as the warmup to the main speaker (Red Gate tools demo), and Volunteered as “door holder” with my son at the most recent SQLSaturdayDallas (BI). In the last year I have presented at 3 SQL Saturdays and did a full day pre-conference on DBA Fundamentals. I also delivered this content at no charge in the Dallas area in September. I helped organize and run the PASS Game Night at Summit this year as well.

Outside of the SQL Server World, in 2012 I was appointed Treasurer of the 1000 member Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association (a 501(c)3) to fill a position left absent. I was able to reconcile and stabilize 6 months of financial non-management as well as prep the books for CPA review. I also prepared the 2013 budget ($50K) and made weekly expense reimbursements. Additionally, I served my church on the Finance committee for 4 years, overseeing a $400K annual budget.

A brief summary of why you want to be a part of the board and why you’ll make a good board member

I would like to be on the board to give back to the DFW community of SQL Server Professionals. I am a long-time member of PASS and am excited about the direction the organization is going. I have a long history of being able to work as part of a team, no matter how diverse. I would be honored to serve in any open position.

I am excited to offer my soft skills, technical skills, and business skills to the members and leadership of the NTSSUG and the entire Dallas (Texas) community we provide our public service.
